The Tower

It's been another Christchurch Tuesday but before heading home I had to make a stop at Tower Junction in Addington to grab some dog food for the fur kids as well as dropping off my damaged jacket at Macpac for repair.

It's been a long time since I last photographed the old water tower that used to stand amongst the railway yards at what are now the large retail park. 

This old tower is quite significant - built in 1883 it was one of the the first reinforced concrete buildings in New Zealand and has been designated a Heritage New Zealand Category 1 Historic Place.

I guess without the reinforcement this would have been another victim of the 2010/2011 earthquakes...
