Day 6
We started the day with a slightly later breakfast and then headed of to the church service in Gatenga. I am not a church goer but it was very uplifting and a chance to catch my breath from the emotions of the past few days. Claude was there sporting his new jumper Rachel sent him and it was great to get another cuddle. Also there was the 14 month old your brother of the 16 year old girl I girl i told you about yesterday. He looked very smart and was smiling and came over to us and touched all our hands. It was then I realised that he was wearing clothes that we had donated yesterday .These particular clothes were donated by my friends daughter and it brought home to me how appreciative I was when I received all the clothes but seeing them on a very needy child and the reality of what the act of giving does for another family almost made me cry.... again! In the afternoon we delivered the mattresses to Batsinda street kids new house and finished off the painting. A few of us went to pick up the beds (11 sets of bunks) which were being hand made at the VTC we visited on or first day, while the rest of the team stayed at the house and entertained the kids and started cooking. Cooking is done on charcol stoves with leaves and branches used as kindlin. There is no kitchen in the house but the plan is to build one out the back very soon, this will most likely be made from mud brick and won't have a roof as the smoke from the stove needs to escape. After a lot of manipulation we packed or more to the point jammed the dismantled beds into the bus and returned to the house. It was dark by now and getting late and the prospect of getting them out of the bus was not filling much joy. We drove up the dark dusty track and to my amazement all the kids appeared and started to unload them....in unspoken communication they were telling us ' these are OUR beds' and we're proud to place them in there first ever home. A home they your donations have provided. My picture today I'd of David Lynsey and Sarah purposing the food fire the kids.
