1666 The Plague

Bruges in the year 1666. Bruges and not only Bruges inhabitants had it in that year and before it, very difficult because of a killing plague . Many people did lost their lives of that plague . Nobody was able to stop it . Many many prayers later the people of Bruges promised the Lord if the plague should stop by the corner of  this house and  street they will make a kind of mosaic in the honour and as a thank you to the Lord .So  after all that it happened and a kind of mosaic was created and is still on that same spot visible. Not many tourist or people are here around and if they should know about this story and the reason of this mosaic I would be very surprised . The street name above the mosaic "Poitevinstraat"  is based on a family that lived here nearby. Otherwise you have a  straight look / perspective to an other street named the street of St. -Joris in Flemish or the street of St.- George in English
