Dazed and confused

This wee goldcrest battered into our window this morning. At first we thought he'd broken a leg as he was sitting in a very uncomfortable looking position on the windowsill.

We debated whether to intervene and decided we couldn't just wait for him to become passing cat snack and decided to at least give him a chance by popping him in a box in the porch to see if he was just feeling a bit dazed..

As you can see he does not have a broken leg he must just have been a bit stunned. After an hour or so he was feeling much better and decided to go exploring the porch. We couldn't catch him so left the door open in the hope that he'd wander off. After another hour or so he looked like he was thinking our porch could be a good place to spend the winter. Worryingly there were now about half a dozen goldcrests flitting about outside the porch tweeting to him and it was beginning to sound as if he was trying to convince them all to join him inside.

We decided enough was enough and genty persuaded him to go. Lovely to get so close to one of my favourite birds but nice to see him on his way as he was beginning to look like a tiny fluffy bundle of trouble..
