Petrified!

An ammonite fossil cut in half, evidently they disappeared millions of years ago. This is one half of a pair.
 
The ammonite” was supposedly inspired by the spiral shape of the fossilised shell in the rock.  Don’t know anymore than this, but they are little pieces of rock art.
