I'm sure I read somewhere recently that it was better to avoid cutting flowering road side verges too early, as these roadside strips often represent the only uncultivated areas of grassland in the countryside.
It looks like Dumfries and Galloway council are taking this advice.
Buttercups as they should be - tall and bobbing in the breeze!
