Out and About

Entiat River

Today, my Wenatchee Naturalist class took a field trip up the Entiat River. The Land Trust has acquired a nice piece of property along the Entiat and we were able to spend the day studying it. There is so much life going on in this 200 acre parcel. We saw river otter tracks, evidence of beaver but the most fascinating part of the field trip was to watch -- up close -- the spawning habits of salmon. We saw dozens of salmon, fighting over their nesting turf. Overhead, Bald Eagles circled, waiting for a salmon to die to swoop up the carcass.
