Istanbul. It was an unexpected delight this morning when the ship moored alongside this biennial exhibit at the Istanbul Modern. I could not have imagined that the day would end at home with news of the terrible attack on the Kurdish peace demonstrators in Ankara. My heart goes out to all Kurds but especially my Kurdish friends.
The Istanbul Biennial has a "Saltwater" theme drawing attention to the tides, swells and knots of of people. Last week I saw an exhibit with an unfathomable 3D model entitled "Rays of hope and tangential interests" which would also be a fitting title for the news footage on our screens today.
