The Bread Shed
The Bread Shed,
Saturday is shopping day or hunter gathering for food for the next week,a visit to the bread shed down Lady gate Beverley is always a delight, Liz Parkin the bakery produces some very tasty breads from organic ingredients of flour, water, yeast, sea salt and olive oil with lots of TLC.
Its only a small shed as the shop and bakery are in one. It sounds like a promo but this has more meaning than that, when I was an apprentice ,many moons ago, pedaling to work passed a bakery situated in what seemed to be a garage at the bottom of a drive way along side the shop its supplied,
It smelled well how does one describe a freshly baked bread smell. The bakers started at about 4 am every morning, working till dinner time but at 6 am you could enter by the wicket door to a small bench, buy fresh out of the oven hot cakes these weren't he sort of soft bread cake you get from those large corporate places but were more of a slipper ciabatta type bread cake with butter if you required it.
It was always hard to pedal by especially on those dark winter mornings often the temptation was just to much. thank goodness the cycling kept the calories down.
Alas the bakery is no longer there, the bakery retired, but the Bread Shed brings alive those very treasured memories.
