Gaze up in wonder
The conference for which I travelled to Liverpool was held in the quite exceptional surroundings of Liverpool Town Hall. It wasn't perfect as a conference venue - the seats were not that comfortable and there was a serious shortage of plugs for electronic devices, not to mention no wifi (not such a problem for me as I could use my phone, but a serious pain for visitors from outside the UK).
The fact that the conference was very interesting - along with the architecture - made such privations easier to bear.
The hotel was not bad either - from an architectural point of view as well as from the quality perspective. And finally the eating was good.
Overall, Liverpool feels like a city on the up, and it's definitely an interesting city - on the sea, with a strong celtic tinge. It doesn't really feel like part of England.
