Acidanthera murielae, or Abyssinian gladiolus

I have been lazy today, and just mooching about the house.  I've watched the World Cup rugby on TV with some enthusiasm and been surprised by some of the supposed lesser teams.

I've been observing this plant quite carefully as I didn't think it would actually make it inot flower before autumn's colder weather arrived. So last week I brought it inside to try and encourage it.  It is an Acidanthera murielae, or Abyssinian gladiolus, which I planted as a bulb last year in this same pot and was very pleased with its flowers and pretty presence.  I didn't expect it to have survived as apparently you are supposed to lift the corms, and it does seem to have grown some extra bulbs although most of them have produced only leaves so far.  This flowering stem has six buds on it and the next flower is ready to unfurl within a day or so,

I took the pot out to the cabin and set up my camera on a tripod to catch the rather dismal light from the hazy sun trying hard to break through the late afternoon clouds. One day I will get myself a remote trigger for my flash and try playing with lighting for such scenes.  In the meantime here is a daylight shot which I am pleased with.  It has a wonderful delicate and slightly sharp fragrance which carried on slight breezes and made me smile.
