Flamingoes

There were about 600 greater flamingoes on Pantano Cuba, one of the old saltpans in the south of the island. It took us about an hour to find the place with our inadequate map and out-of-date GPS, but it was worth it when we did. Having said that, the site would have benefited from somewhere to park the car, some signage, some viewing points and a rubbish collection system. There doesn't seem to be any form of waste collection in this part of the island and the roads around the salinas are a popular dumping ground - we saw a couple of vehicles unloading the week's rubbish in the roadside where this photo was taken from.
