Bowood 2015 #42 (Wednesday 30th September 2015)

I finally had a chance to show C. around Bowood on this visit. She had been talking about it for a couple of years, not having been there for some decades. We did a tour around the perimeter of the grounds including the Lake and the temple, the waterfall and the pinetum.

At the lake we saw a number of great crested grebes, ducks, geese and a heron, but also a group of four cormorants. I think this was the first time I have seen cormorants there. There was also a pair of buzzards circling over the woods behind the Lake, and as we climbed the grassy slope towards the pinetum we saw a brown hare sitting in front of us, the first she had seen for many years. We also had a look at the rabbits, lambs, piglets and chickens at Tractor Ted's Little Farm.

I took this autumnal landscape on my new Panasonic Lumix LX-100, a compact with a half full-frame sensor, but I have discovered it has a fault. This was the only shot I took with a freshly recharged new battery before it went flat again, and tests have shown that somehow the camera is draining the battery while it is switched off. As it was a used camera when I bought it, Amazon has offered a full refund but will not repair or replace it, so I have had to look elsewhere for a new one at the best price.

This comes from the deluxe edition of the 2015 album Hand.Cannot.Erase. This track features Katherine Jenkins, the Welsh lyric mezzo-soprano. The album was inspired by the story of Carol Vincent, who died in her bedsit at the age of 38 and lay undiscovered for three years. Carol Morley made a very affecting film, with Zawe Ashton as Vincent, on this subject, called Dreams Of A Life; well worth a view.
