Flexibility or Sunset over a carrot field

This afternoon we had great skies: big white fluffy clouds on dark blue. It looked like it would continue all the way until sunset, so Ton and I decided to get out again. We wanted to capture the last light on the ships in the harbour of Lauwersoog, but while we were on our way the sky changed. We checked the forecast again and decided to change course and revisit the Eemshaven, where we were last Monday. Unfortunately, the sky didn't look that promising there either.

It pays off to have some experience. We stuck around and noticed we might still get some last sunlight. We drove to a carrot field and set up our gear. I had the wide-angle lens on, but once the sun made an appearance I realized that only a small part of the sky changed colour. Not so long ago I would have continued taking shots with the wide-angle lens, but this time I reached for the 70-200 lens and captured the shot you are looking at. The lines in the field, the glow on the turbines and of course the sunlight make this shot in my opinion.

Once the sun disappeared behind the clouds near the horizon, we thought the show would be over. Yet, we waited somewhat more and noticed the clouds started colouring quite nicely. We moved to another spot and continued shooting. That's when I captured this nettle bush. Then it was time to drive home again. Our flexibility saved the day. Or rather, our sunset shoot.
