Jessica Ennis
Fantastic day at the Aviva Olympic Trials with my Min. Firstly we had a swimming lesson to go to, but then after the quickest shower ever we were in the car and on our way. It must be said that her excitement level was high having woken at 05.50 shouting "Is it wakey up time yet?"
We arrived at 13.05, straight to the Sportshall stand. Carys did the high stepper, the standing long jump and the speed bounce. The boy she did it with was nine (but fairly unco-ordinated). Luckily he went first so got his certificate first, Step 2. The guys giving out the certificates had a nice chat with Carys, asking about her t-shirt, which she said she got for her birthday and wanting to try on her hairband, which she wouldn't let them. They hada bit of banter with her about how old she was, she was very surprised when they 'worked out' she was five (it was written on her score card). They then did the maths and low and behold said " Well Carys you got Step five which is fantastic for a five year old!" Her face made my day, although I did think she might explode. As we left the stand I heard the older guysayto the younger one, "What a lovely kid." At that point I thought I might explode.
Such fantastic athletics it is difficult to pick a highlight. Carys really got into the women's high jump (which Jess Ennis won), asking sensible questions about how many more goes they get and why some run up from one side and others from the other. The men's 440m hurdles was great, although Rhys Williams fell in the homestraight, which is such a shame. Jessica Ennis won the women's 100m Hurdles too and this is when I grabbed this shot. I quite like the photographers in the foreground as she was definately the draw of the day. Loved the women's 800m and 1500m. Is it silly that this far out from being a competitive athlete I still get goosebumps when someone says "On your marks..." at the start of the UK Champs for these races?
I love my big girl days out at the running, but I am planning to have a family day out at the indoor next Feb as it is about time that William is introduced to it properly and Carys was only thre the first time she went. But first we have another Big Girl's day out at the Diamond League at Crystal Palace in three weeks time. Bring it on...
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Daddy and Poppa did some jobs to sort the shed roof (yawn), and Nanna and William had fun playing together for most of the day.
