While the Royal Southampton Yacht Club is one of the most active and dynamic clubs in the South of England whose members enjoy their sport and engage a wide variety of sailing and social activities on and off the water, it is often model yacht racing which catches the imagination.
That’s with models like this which are radio controlled and allows members to participate in a less expensive, yet exciting and complementary sailing sport.
The club has its own radio controlled section, and the model boats range from high-tech international class racing yachts to small scale craft like tugs and lifeboats.
This particular model is permanently on display in the club’s Ocean Village clubhouse, but you’ll find members with similar boats at the water’s edge. The club runs a full programme of races, events, workshops and talks focussing on this particular aspect of sailing.

The next is a sailing day and evening supper and talk on October 29 giving enthusiasts a full day of racing in Ocean Village marina with time allotted to finalise the programme for radio controlled yachting events for next year, and ending with a carvery supper and talk by Lester Gilbert from Southampton University on the design ratios and current trends in model radio controlled yacht racing.
