Beauty and the Beast

The saga of the opening of our new Performing Arts Center.  The big opening was on Saturday, October 3.  The headliners were Liza Minelli and the North Carolina Symphony.  Those in attendance witnessed a less than stellar performance by Liza, who has suffered from personal problems for many years.  It was reported that the symphony was excellent.

On Sunday, the symphony was to open its season, having moved to the new hall from another venue.  Gina and I were to work as volunteers.  It was cancelled due to excessive flooding.

On Monday, the first Broadway road performed.  Gina and I worked this event, "Beauty and the Beast".  It was marred by two interruptions when the fire alarms went off and the entire 1100 in attendance had to be evacuated, once during the opening number, and later on in the second half.  Evidently it was a popcorn machine causing the alarms.  Why popcorn is served, we don't know.  

Tuesday evening, the second performance of Beauty and the Beast went on without incident.  Hopefully, everything has been resolved in the beautiful state-of-the-art theater.
