Meeting Oliver Burkeman
First interesting part of today was spent at Bert's Bar to enjoy a pie - 'famous' pie, I'm told - and a pint. Then it was on to the Kagyu Samye Dzong Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Centre to hear Oliver Burkeman talk about his new book The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can't Stand Positive Thinking, a celebration of the power of negative thinking. Certainly a thought-provoking and humourous event that left me feeling happy rather than sad. Particularly as we all received a free copy (mine signed) of the new book.
Then it was on to see an Edinburgh International Film Festival offering Wu xia. Given that I obviously speak fluent Chinese, this translates as Dragon. A really enjoyable film, lots of kung fu action and a baddie/goodie moral dilemma theme running throughout.
