Not a good day
Tremendous downpour as I was making the tea (spaghetti carbonara) and getting everything ready - onions chopped, bacon chopped, eggs roughed up, and so on. Mrs P came out just then but any thought she might have had about checking my sherry levels was thrown out the window as she noticed the water levels. Our drive is a little lower than the lane to the road and many years ago I dug a drain under the lawn. So it's many years since we've had this situation. The drain simply couldn't take that amount of water in a short time and water started coming into our porch. So bags of compost were deployed to take the place of sandbags and and a snow shovel, still in the porch because I hadn't bothered to put it away, served as a bailer-outer. The rain eased off and pictured is the aftermath. Fortunately no water got into the house itself although both of us got pretty drenched to the skin. Pleased we got the roof over our bedroom done in spring. And new guttering put up just over a month ago on one side of the house performed perfectly. We've decided to replace the drain under the lawn with one of wider calibre. And possibly a hump at the end of the drive so water coming down the lane carried straight on past.
PS: To blip this I deleted an earlier desperation blip. Apologies to the one person who commented - I try not to make a habit of changing blip after people have commented.
