Manchester Victoria

Rubbish weather again....... We had to drive into Manchester this morning for yet another dental appointment for me, no extractions thankfully this time, just "deep cleaning" under the gum line, as a result of my problem gums, inherited from my dear dad :-/ it's throbbing away as I'm typing this, time for some more paracetamol I think.

We had a walk around Manchester for an hour or so, after the dentist and decided to take a look at the "adult slide" that had been advertised, which is situated in the £44m newly refurbished Victoria Station.

To be honest the slide was a bit of a disappointment, I expected a monster slide, not a tame few metres high, ridden on flimsy blue blankets........the upside was the sight of the newly opened station! I hadn't been to Victoria for a couple of years I guess, so although hub had seen it a couple of times, mid transformation, I had not.

Transformation is the right word, it used to be dark, damp, unwelcoming........now it's fabulously light, even on a day like today, the addition of the 8 Metrolink tram platforms has opened it up to many more users I imagine. The yellow in the foreground are the tram platforms. You can just see a purple coloured Northern train on one of the main platforms towards the back of the shot.

As you can tell, I am really impressed :-)

After our wonder, which gave my numbness chance to ease off a little, we went to Jamie's for lunch. Usual artisan breads, crab and avocado bruschetta to share, prawn and chilli linguine for me whilst hub had confit of duck on puy lentil salad, water, 2 glasses of red and two decaf coffees........I managed not to dribble despite still being quite numb on one side ;-)
