La Cannibale

our normally sleepy, quiet little village has been transformed this weekend as most of the inhabitants of Belgium who cycle have come for a massive event. They have taken over the whole of the centre of the village and the first event kicked off (or rather pedalled off) at 6.30 this morning......La Cannibale, it is called - 173km starting with an ascent of the Ventoux - down the other side - a 100km circuit including 4 (or 5 depending on your interpretation) big climbs ('cols') and then back up to finish at the top of the Ventoux. Not for the faint hearted.

If that seemed slightly excessive there is a 131 km route which is pretty much the same as the above but with 2 less cols and then for the tourists there is the Ventourist - just an ascent of the Ventoux!!

Eddy Mercks started La Cannibale this morning and as we were up anyway littlest boy and I went down to have a look. As the roads are fairly narrow and there were lots of people and I had a pram this probably doesn't portray the scene as well as it could but believe me, the best part of 2600 people cycling through the village is a sight to be seen, even at 6.30 in the morning!

And, to anyone and everyone who has participated today - chapeau!!
