Nature's Patterns
At first glance you might think that vehicles with chunky tyres had been travelling along the beach.
But this is not so. These are the patterns left by the tides. They are very interesting and take different forms on other parts of the Bay.
These are small patterns compared to those further out in the estuary. After any high tide or storm very large changes regularly occur. Channels move from one side to the other and large sand banks are created. Interesting articles have been written about these movements by academics at Lancaster University. It is interesting to take photographs from the top of Arnside Knott from where these movements can often be seen.
