80,000 march on Manchester
The sun shone as about 80,000 people from all over the UK marched in Manchester, where the Conservative (Tory) party conference is being held. This guy is marching with one of the teaching unions.
Most people carried banners or placards with messages on them, some people went for a bit of a scamper (the rather small black bloc contingent) for about a couple of 100 yards, many had a bit of a shout and one person threw an egg at a conference delegate who came out to goad protesters by waving a photo of Thatcher at them.
The atmosphere was remarkably good-natured, generally, with lots of piggery-jokery going on. I bumped into a fellow Blipper (Bookworm1962) totally by coincidence and also, again by coincidence, met someone I hadn't seen for about 25 years. You can see a photo of the lovely Susi as an extra (she's a professional clown and circus skills teacher amongst other things) and the full set of my pics here.
Some of my activist friends from Norwich stayed on in Manchester to take part in the actions which have been planned by DPAC (Disabled People Against the Cuts).
