Spilimbergo
'I need to brush my teeth' was Liz's excuse (including a demonstration) for buggering off and leaving me to chat to the adorable Italian neighbour who spoke two words of English... Good morning.
Brush your bloody teeth?
Brush your bloody teeth?!
And then she phoned her son who looks after our house to come and join in the fun.
Paulo spoke two words less than Anna.
Unfortunately, because in one of her questions, I understood two of the words and therefore pieced together the question, and answer: 'No, Cortina caldo', she took me for fluent and continued with the loveliest sounding Italian paragraphs. And I hadn't the first clue.
Mentally noting the two minutes of an electric toothbrush and incorporating the word 'yurarse', I dashed in and invited Liz back outside.
After a few tricky silences where no one was prepared to take centre stage, nor leave, we somehow managed to finish our renditions of Give Us A Clue with lots of smiles and end the show. Everyone we've met here has been incredibly friendly with hearts of pure gold. I do so wish I could say more than 'eight slices of ham please.' (Despite it proving useful!)
The rest of the day consisted of a lovely mooch in the delightful town of Spilimbergo, slow coffees on the piazza and long reads while we enjoyed them.
And now we're a little agitated and in need of another adventure!
