Dry Bridge Lodge
Dry Bridge Lodge, was designed and built in 1849 by the Architect Ambrose Poynter, on the instructions of Edward Pryce Lloyd, 1st Baron Mostyn. The baron was a politician and, at different times, the High Sheriff of Flintshire, Caernarvonshire and Merinoethshire.
This structure is quite unusual in that it is also a gatehouse. The public road was lowered and the drive to Mostyn Hall crosses above at 90 degrees. From here we are looking at it end on and it appears quite narrow. In fact it is much longer as the driveway to Mostyn Hall actually passes right through its centre. Take a look at Graham Watkins website complete with a picture of this once impressive gatehouse from the perspective of the landed gentry.
