Turkischemarkt
Some delicious food picked up at the Turkish market in Berlin followed by a picnic in the crisp sunlight by the canal.
It was fitting to be celebrating culinary (and by association human) diversity in Berlin as Germany and Ange are leading the way in the European refugee response. Turkish immigrant workers have been a well established group in Germany for several decades, and are not refugees, but contribute strongly to Berlin's tolerant and diverse vibe. Any culture that brings such delicious chewy dates and fresh flatbreads should be given its own market and allowed to prosper.
Berlin's destitute side revealed itself as I left for the airport where we think we saw a dead or dying body on the street in a sketchy area of town. As I believe Germany is less of a nanny state, perhaps the system doesn't have such strong safety nets for those who get themselves into trouble.
