Foxton Locks
It was another lovely day so we went on an outing to Foxton locks in Leicestershire. This is a run of ten locks in two 'staircases' with a holding pond between each set of five. Italso has the remains of an inclined plane which was a way of moving canal boats up and down the slope more quickly than by using the locks. Unfortunately the plane system proved too expensive and was only used for ten years, then dismantled and sold for scrap in 1926. There is a project to re-create the plane but it will take a great deal of money.
