Justin Townes Earle @ John Dee

Great to see the man play in Oslo once more - if he comes back every six months or so that's fine by me. Unlike the previous show he had accompanists, but I prefer the solo songs. He's also not afraid of telling truth in between numbers - his relationship with his father Steve Earle has never been straightforward and the intro to Mama's Eyes was as heartrending as the song. Also great to see himself distance himself from so much of the bad country music that emanates from the States these days - as he said, "the reason country music sucks now is because it has lost its connection to the blues". Many of the great ones may be dead and gone, but the true spirit of Americana lives on in JTE.
