The Red Devil

We are in Minlaton and this Sunday they will be celebrating their most famous son, Harry Butler, who was the first person to deliver post over water. He flew in his plane , the Red Devil, over the St Vincent gulf from near Minlation to Adelaide thus starting the first air mail service in the Southern Hemisphere. A bronze statue of Harry was commissioned and is to be formally installed this Sunday.

The picture shows the sculptor and helpers siting the statue which arrived strapped on the roof of a 4 x 4 ! There are still many of his descendants living in and around Minlation who will be celebrating on Sunday too!
