Abstract Thursday: "Autumn Dreams"
I know the year is dying,
Soon the summer will be dead.
I can trace it in the flying
Of the black crows overhead;
I can hear it in the rustle
Of the dead leaves as I pass,
And the south wind’s plaintive sighing
Through the dry and withered grass.
Ah, ’tis then I love to wander,
Wander idly and alone,
Listening to the solemn music
Of sweet nature’s undertone;
Wrapt in thoughts I cannot utter,
Dreams my tongue cannot express,
Dreams that match the autumn’s sadness
In their longing tenderness.
Mortimer Crane Brown (1857 - 1937)
This poem describes perfectly my solitary walk in the golden autumn sunshine this afternoon. I brushed past dead and dying thistles as I wandered along the paths between the hills near my home. Although I savoured the warmth and brightness beneath the blue sky, I felt a little sad at the same time to think that these last few golden days will soon be gone.
I think the effects I've used on today's blipfoto also reflect the contrast of the sunshine and the dying grasses.
