Restored B-29 Superfortress in Albuquerque

Today I visited the recently restored B-29 Superfortress at the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History in Albuquerque. It is one of the 17 B-29 bombers remaining in the world.

For many months the museum has been restoring this rare bomber that helped finish World War II.  “It’s a piece of history that will stay forever,” said Restoration Coordinator Hanks. Built by Boeing the Superfortress is the same model that dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.

I know there are people for and against the preservation of military history. It is not for me to judge other than to say this aircraft represents what was the policy of the times, and stands as a tribute to the thousands of brave men who gave their lives for their country, and to preserve democracy for future generations.

My main photo shows one of the 4 engines on the port side. The extra photo shows a larger view of the aircraft. It was extremely hot standing in the sun shooting these pix and so I grabbed what I could - as fast as possible.
