Just after the war the scene beside the Glasgow Clyde would have been very different.  As far as the eye can see there would have been bustling docks full of ships with miles of wharves and towering cranes loading all types of cargo, including heavy locomotives, to be exported round the world. With the decline of the engineering, manufacturing and shipbuilding industries the area became derelict but now most of the docks have been filled in and the landscape is totally changed with modern buildings devoted mainly to leisure, housing and the media.  Looking upriver from the quay at the Riverside Museum the buildings which can be seen include the Hydro Arena, the Armadillo, the Clyde Arc bridge, BBC Scotland HQ, Glasgow Science Centre and  Imax cinema and the Glasgow Tower.
