Barley
With the recent good weather, most of the fields have been cut now, the barley carted away and the straw lying drying, waiting to be baled. On the way back from our walk I noticed all the uncut edges of one field, so had a leisurely sit down amongst them and picked a whole bag full of barley heads for the hens!
Ollie rolled in the stubble and snuffled around looking for interesting smells . . .
An early memory is of my granda showing me that if you put a barley head in your sleeve cuff and carried on walking, before you knew it it was up in your armpit! A great thing to show a small child!
