Worst way to stop a scooter?

A large tree.
Our stretch of road is hazardous, at best. Our next door neighbors and this house across the street get the worst of it. I only saw/heard the aftermath of today's accident, which appeared to be a young person who went off the road into a tree. I saw him/her being loaded onto the ambulance on a long board, and couldn't tell how serious the injuries might be. Both parents were on the scene - I can only imagine getting that kind of phone call and hope everyone's ok.
