His Holiness 14th Dalai Lama

Went to the Usher Hall this morning to see His Holiness. Upper circle tickets so was never going to get that intimate shot! Still I have now taken a photo of the Dalai Lama so job done.

We hardly heard a word he said because he is softly spoken and the acoustics were terrible. This really needs to be thought through more. Perhaps his translator should always repeat what he is saying.

I used an old pre-AI 105mm f2.5 Nikkor on my Nikon D80 wide open at 1/180th of a second. This is then a heavy crop of that shot. I'm amazed at how sharp this lens. The lens is probably 30 years old. Just loving these old optics on a modern camera. No metering of course. You have to take a couple of test shots and look at the histograms - but I tend to do that anyway.
