Several places in Leith were open for Doors Open Day so after visiting a few we wandered down to the docks where I noticed these boats looking colourful in the warm autumn sunshine. Frequent visitors to the Port of Leith include vessels connected to the oil exploration industry and naval patrol boats. Here at the front is the Barentshav, a Norwegian patrol vessel, and behind can be seen the huge drums of the Seven Navico pipe layer and a sister ship, the prominent Seven Discovery which is a cable layer. Other boats in the docks include another pipe layer, a diving support vessel, a survey vessel, a Dutch naval boat and cargo boats. On the right is the small Windsor Castle (previously called the Fingal) which has recently been bought to be turned into a 25 bedroom luxury ‘boatique’ hotel and will then be moored beside the Britannia.
