Mystic's birthday (near enough!)
On or around 28th September 2008 a litter of 8 puppies was born in a house in Wales. There were 5 adult Border Collies aged about 3 years in the house and it was assumed one of them was the father - but none of them was the mother. When the pups were 10 weeks old the house was vacated leaving the collies and pups but not the mother. Neighbours said that none of the dogs had ever left the house, not even for toilet - the house was inches deep in poo and wee. From this hell all the dogs were taken by the Many Tears Rescue. A week later I collected Mystic - she was surprisingly fit and well nourished but still smelly despite having had several baths. Like all her siblings she had the pink staining on her face where the eyes had been watering constantly (well wouldn't yours in all that acrid smell of poo and wee?) My vet thought that may be permanent damage to the hair follicles, but as you can see from today's pic, that was not the case.
She is a perfectly happy, healthy and fun loving dog - but suppose there had been no Rescue ? What would have happened to those 13 animals - and so many more all over the country?
I got Mystic as a companion for Merlin who is just 6 weeks older than her - and was bred and reared with love and the best of care.
Sophie and Bess were also rescues - but not so dramatic as Mystic.
I have put Mystic on today despite her birthday usually put as 28th - I hope to have a red moon pic tomorrow (if it is not cloudy at 3am)
