Porcelain fungus
I was pleased to find one of my favourite toadstools, Oudemansiella mucida or Porcelain fungus, on a fallen beech branch today. The slimy, reflective cap and translucent gills give it a truly magical quality in the right light conditions. A well-known mycologist is reputed to have wanted to call his baby daughter Oudemaniella, but was over-ruled by his wife!
