Spring Lake Morning
Saturday morning is always busy at Spring Lake. Ozzie has a funny looking eye and since the lake is full of algae, we picked a route that mostly avoided the water…or at least the water that still looks like water. I heard several conversations about older people, parents most likely, who developed aches and pains and stopped moving so the aches and pains got worse and pretty soon they were completely sedentary. I vowed that that would never happen to us. We would get too bored!
By some miracle I was able to get OilMan in to see Kathy, my Pilates trainer who is also a physical therapist, but when I commented that I hadn't seen him doing any of the exercises she gave him for his incredibly stiff body he confessed that he really didn't understand all of them, even though she wrote them all out for him. We spent half an hour going over them during which he also admitted that Kathy, in the most loving way, I'm sure, told him that he was a 'motor moron'. The man is all in his brain!
I have learned through experience that he will never do anything I ask him do do, but if it comes to him via someone else, he will accept my help as an interpreter. He always used to say that he was stiff, and proud of it. Now that he is beginning pay the price for that, maybe he will begin to see the mind body connection and accept my therapeutic advice while I can still remember it…
