Douglas

A good friend of ours lost her father on Sunday night. Doug (Dewey) was 85.

Way back in my other life (when I worked), I delivered mail to Doug's place of business...aptly named Deweys Auto Service. He was a very honest man, and it showed in the way he conducted himself, and his business.

He was also a great dad and husband. A father to 4 children, and a husband to Susan for sixty years. He treated her like a princess, and she treated him like a prince.

All of those were a great example to watch, but I think he really made his mark as a grandfather. Him and his "bride" made every last one of them feel special, and that was a lot of giving of themselves, because there were 27 of them. 27!!!

The last few months (7-9) have not treated Dewey well, but I believe he is now resting peacefully, and is back to being sound in mind and body.

Some things never get old. Love, respect, compassion, honesty, a sense of humor, and caring. Douglas had them all, and had them in abundance. He also passed some of those traits on to his son-in-law, who did a wonderful job today conducting the rough-to-get-through service.

It was a pleasure to know him, and God greeted a good man into heaven today.

Amen.
