Alsatian houses
We bounced around in a neighboring town today, Colmar, birth place of Bartholdi, the creator of the Statue of Liberty.
I really like Colmar: in addition to great shopping, it has a wonderfully quaint and typical town center, with lots of historic markers. It dates back to the 11th century and sports the Unterlinden museum, which occupies the old dominican convent created in 1230. It is home to Grunewald's Isenheim Altarpiece, which is just magnificent.
Today was the fete de la musique all over France. Unfortunately, really bad thunderstorms were planned and all the outdoors festivities got cancelled across the entire region. Shame: it's a great deal of fun!
