Aboriginal Day
This morning I attended Aboriginal Day celebrations at the Vancouver Island University, a small gathering of people who sang songs and drummed. The culinary arts class prepared food for the participants.
The man in the photograph was the master of ceremonies.
The arts council also hosted an event.
"Throughout the month of June, the Cowichan Aboriginal Film Festival is co hosting The Story of Cedar Art Show with the Cowichan Valley Arts Council. The Story of Cedar will feature Coast Salish carvers, cedar weavers, drum makers and artists who either work with cedar, or who have incorporated elements of cedar, "the tree of life", into their work. The work of 10-12 artists and artisans will be featured at Portals Art Gallery, in celebration of June, National Aboriginal Month."
