The Chalet, Ivythorn Hill
The Chalet was built on Ivythorn Hill, overlooking Street, as a place for recuperation and relaxation, just over a century ago, but soon became a haven for wounded soldiers! During the Second World War, it housed evacuees. But between the wars it had become a Youth Hostel, and that is what it is, outside wartimes.
On Sunday 13 September there was an open day with tea and cake, and I went to visit it - hence the pink balloons!
(Ivythorn Hill itself is owned by the National Trust, as proclaimed by the notice - a popular place to walk on Sunday afternoons.)
