Man in Drain

This reminded me of an incident that I watched unfold before me whilst waiting for a friend to meet me from work when I lived in Kiev.

These two blokes carrying a ladder and a large tool box wandered up the street and stopped at a manhole cover. Grabbing some appropriate tools, they proceeded to remove said cover and both stood on the edge of the hole peering in. Lots of pointing and serious conversation ensued and eventually the ladder was put down the hole.

Soon after the ladder, one of the men went down the hole. He disappeared, popped back up to grab some tools, and disappeared once more. The other chap just stood and looked down at his friend working away and have some form of conversation with him.

Then the ladder was removed from the hole whilst the first man was still in the drain. I can only assume that this was so that work could be carried out without the ladder being in the way.

It was at this point that I noticed the second man's attention had drifted from the hole and the conversation somewhat and was now focused on the kiosk close by that sold beer amongst other things.

Slowly but surely the second man started to physically drift towards the kiosk, all whilst shouting conversation at his pal down the hole. The further he moved, the louder he shouted.

The scene eventually ended for me with the arrival of my friend, but not before the second man had completely lost focus on the job in hand and was now chatting up the young lady in the kiosk whilst enjoying his beer. I couldn't understand the shouts from his mate in the hole, but they didn't sound happy!!
