Caravan Numberplate Fiasco!
So, as most of you are aware I became the proud owner of a new (second-hand actually!) two berth caravan and I am trying it out for size at a local camping site.
When we picked her up we realised we were missing a very vital piece of kit. Oh, we forgot to get a number plate for the back of the new caravan. Oops! :-D
Grandpa panicked for a little while but the caravan dealer said "here you go, have this number plate instead" and put it in the back window. He assured us that it would get us back home without any problems. Although it was somebody else's plate from a vehicle we had nothing to do with. We were somewhat desperate and with time getting on we agreed to take it and off to the storage site we travelled, looking round every corner and waiting to see blue lights flashing at us in the side mirrors.
Fortunately we managed to tow the new caravan to the storage site without being busted by the police or similar for driving with a number plate that didn't match our towing vehicle and that also was partly obscured by the edges of the rear caravan window.
Needless to say I decided to try out the new acquisition the following day and demanded that we were both towed to the local campsite for a few days. Grandpa agreed and half way through the journey we remembered that we had a "dodgy" number plate setup at the rear end of the caravan but we decided to just continue to the campsite like we would usually do if we were taking Lottie who you will be pleased to know is fully legal and has the correct number plate to match Grandpa's towing vehicle.
This morning we noticed the number plate once again and as we will be taking the caravan back into storage tomorrow, which means another fifteen or so mile drive through South Cambridgeshire we both agreed it was time to get a proper number plate made and discard the possibly illicit one.
We went to a shop in our nearest town and he made us a new number plate within a few minutes. Myself and Grandpa rushed back to the caravan site and sneakily applied the new number plate to Mollie Mae.
Hooray, we are now fully legal and ready for the journey back to the storage site tomorrow morning.
What a fiasco? ha! :-)
Oh, and sorry for the excessive use of the word number plate, I just couldn't seem to explain it any other way.
