Mr Music

Wet, wet, wet but we tracked over to Clonakilty in the late afternoon to see Jeffrey Lewis' set, part of the Guitar Festival. Jeffrey calls himself an anti-folk singer and comic book artist and he managed to combine both in his performance. He has one of those seductive slightly camp New York accents, a fine line in lyrics and a wicked eye for subervise detail. He should have been playing with Peter Sampfel, a 75 year old highly eccentric fiddler, but he had fallen down in Belfast and broken his hip. He did manage to sing to us from his hospital bed - even though everything seemed to have an echo and be a second or two out! Another spot of interesting culture in West Cork.
This is one of my favourites of his though he didn't play it today.
