Cupola House Bury St Edmunds

Today was so warm and sunny and I spent the morning walking with a friend around her farm. We are really fortunate because we have horse studs all around us and her farm runs alongside one where there are mares and foals who were very inquisitive of us. I was able to take some beautiful photos of them.

This afternoon I went to see The Artist. I was quite ambivalent about the film as I couldn't imagine how a 'silent' film would live up to the praise that it has received in all the press. I was very wrong as it was really quite brilliant. The acting was so good and the film overall was very thought provoking and I would recommend anyone seeing it. We finished the evening with an Italian meal - lovely.

I was born in Bury St Edmunds and have grown up in a town with so many fabulous historic buildings. The local news has been filled this week with reports following the fire in Cupola House which is a wonderful building 400 years old and steeped in history. It caught fire on earlier this week and as I was walking through the town last night the engineers and fire service were still present looking at how they are going to be able to save it. Through chatting to one of the firemen, an ex colleague of Bill's, he said they are planning to pull the chimney down today although they think they have saved the front facade. It is such a shame but there is quite confident talk of it being restored to replicate the original. I hope so...
