The last day of summer in the Lammermuirs

When we saw the weather forecast for today Mr hazelh and I packed a picnic and headed for the hills. We thought that this could be the last day of summer and wanted to make the most of it.

We completed a 7 mile loop around, and a climb up, Priestlaw Hill. The route of the walk is just on the border of East Lothian and the Scottish Borders. It takes in a 'herring road', an old path that was once used by the fishwives of Dunbar to carry creels of herring over the Lammermuirs to market in the Borders town of Lauder. My blip shows the view east from Priestlaw Hill looking towards Whiteadder reservoir.

After our walk we popped into Haddington for afternoon tea of Earl Grey, scones and chocolate cake. Then we did a sweep of the charity shops. Nothing was purchased, but I know where to go the next time that I need a hat for a wedding.

This evening we will be glued to the television to watch the first programme of the new series of Dr Who.

Exercise today: 7 mile hill walk (21,934 steps).
