Backblip: Nell was Not Amused
After a pleasant sojourn at Poolewe, we set forth for Loch Maree, via Gairloch. Mr L spotted the Victoria Falls on his map and suggested calling in. I said that what was clearly good enough for Vicky was good enough for me too and so we gained Forest #7 (am I keeping the count straight?)
It was a short walk on a newly-maintained path. Nell did not like the noise of the waterfall and was not at all keen on close inspection. We walked on up and around the loop to get a wonderful view of Loch Maree. Midge Quotient: Low.
It was a case of "jackets on!" at Gairloch. In fact we had the worst rain of our whole trip as we explored there. Thankfully it did not last long and we had a dry walk back to Brunhilde with our goodies from the rather wonderful village shop there. Midges: Absent
We stopped just outside Gairloch for Nell to have a run on the beach. She and Mr L collected one more piece of woodland - not a forest per se but we are counting it on the running total as #8. I stayed in the van as my little legs had about given up at this point.
The Midge Quotient at the Coille na Glas Letire Trails car park was low-to-irritating when we arrived but as we climbed the Woodland Trail they became intolerable. Poor Mr L was inhaling midgies and choking on them. It would have been an enjoyable walk under other circumstances, and with some fine views, but the midgies made it a miserable affair.
In the evening we battened all hatches, sprayed liberally with raid and trusted to luck that Nell would not require another wee.... We had two other vans for company overnight.
