Rhinoceros Beetle Larvae
Found this one in a decaying tree. The tree actually appeared to be in pretty good shape externally with fresh branches and leaves, but it is one that had to be re-positioned after a fall in a typhoon a year or so back. The inside are turning to compost, and a little rooting about found three of these beetle larvae.
Kind of tempted to abduct them and keep them in a tank, but they're probably happier were they are. At least until a bird gets them...
The extra is a White, either small or large. These have been giving me the run around for the last three weeks, but I finally got a decent shot today.
I don't remember them being so flighty in England, could be the warmer weather?
Back to Takatori-Yama tomorrow.
